Within two months, we will be on the eve of the 60th edition of the ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen, which will put Roeselare and the surrounding area on the map more than ever. Belgium's oldest road race will not only be the 7th round of the JobFIXers Belgian Rally Championship, which also counts for the Historic BRC, the RACB Criterium and the M Cup. It will also be the only Belgian rally on the calendar of the European 'Tour European Rally' and 'TER Historic'. The West Flanders classic is also this year's round of the Open Championship of the Netherlands, the HRCR Rally Masters and the Mini Sport Cup. Hey programme is further filled with the 'Porsche Event' and the innovative Sanicentrum E Rally, reserved for electrically powered cars.
Rules and registration online
So that the various events would run in optimal conditions, those in charge of KAMV have worked out an optimised programme. Every participant will be able to experience an enjoyable weekend. The programme, competition rules and entry forms are now online on the website www.omloopvanvlaanderen.be.
20 special stages on the menu
For the main competitions (TER and BRC), the ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen will be spread over two days, on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 September, over a total of 20 special stages.
On Friday, five tests will be run for a total of a good 35 km. Participants will drive KP De Ruiter and KP Beveren twice and the Zoning once. The first car will depart the stage at 17h30 and close the first day around 22h.
On Saturday, 15 KPs are scheduled from 8am, in three identical rounds of five tests. This will account for just over 164 km in chrono stages. This will bring the total of the rally against the clock to just under 200 km. The final stage is scheduled to finish around 21h30.
The E Rally cars will charge on the Poland square
The Criterium, which is exclusive to private pilots, runs 10 stages (the first two rounds of 5 KPs), accounting for 109.6 km against the clock. The E Rally competitors will face 93.5 km. They will drive the first and third rounds on Saturday and recharge their batteries at the Poland Square in between.
New: A test drive before the shakedown on Wednesday
A novelty in this year's ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen is the opportunity offered to participants to complete a test trial on a scenic lane closed to traffic.
"We have obtained permission to organise a test drive and a shakedown on Wednesday 4 September. This will take place in the village of Slypskapelle, a borough of Moorslede," Christof Seynaeve, Vice-President of KAMV, rejoices. "In cooperation with the local hospitality industry, Slyps will be transformed into a cosy rally village. The service on that Wednesday will take place in the village. The start of the test will be at the end of the service area. That way, everything will be within walking distance. The trial will be 5 km long. From 1pm to 6pm, this KP will be reserved for testing. Here only a limited group of participants will be allowed. We want to give the teams the opportunity to carry out thorough tests to get their car ready for the 60th ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen. From 6pm to 10pm, the test will be opened as a shakedown and will be open to all participants."
In short, the organisers of the ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen really do all they can to make things to the participants' liking. Their enthusiasm can only enhance the spectacle. An appointment not to be missed.
Some details about the trials
KP De Ruiter was shortened due to roadworks. Thus, this year it will not contain a dirt strip. Always a difficult opener of the rally on very narrow and bumpy roads.
KP Beveren gets a fresh start, but the spectacular 'Lust Arena' remains. Ample parking will be provided to visit it. Catering available at the Lust zone and a nice overview of the spectacle.
KP Zoning will be run in reverse to last year. The area at the roundabout will remain free to all. A well-known roundabout on the industrial zone. This KP is adjacent to the service zone, stage and rally centre.
KP Passendale was changed from last year but will again be the longest of the rally with 17.55 km against the clock.
KP Houthulst is unchanged. A fast test for fans of fast passages à fond.
KP Zilverberg is also unchanged. A very slippery test where the grip for the cars constantly changes. Perhaps the most difficult for the numerous foreigners.
KP Rumbeke is unchanged; a classic in the Omloop van Vlaanderen.
Regroups: this year there will be two regrouping zones for participants. The first will take place near the Crest Farm Canadian Memorial monument in Passendale, the second in the centre of Roeselare.
