The Roeselaar-based club's ambition is to take its competition to the next level and become one of the three major rallies in Belgium.

Sylvain Michel did the best business in the Antibes Rally

The country's oldest road race, the ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen, will be the only round of the BRC to count towards the prestigious European competition that is the TER (Tour European Rally). And for the new variant for vintage cars, the TER Historic. The TER opened this season on 18 and 19 May in the Antibes Rally. It was an exciting duel between the Citroëns C3 R5 of Frenchmen Yoann Bonato and Yohan Rossel. The former, aspiring to the title in the TER, left victory to the latter as he made a mistake on the very last test. Their compatriot Sylvain Michel was the best of the competitors entered in the TER, ahead of the other Frenchmen Bruno Riberi and Romain Haut-Labourdette, Luxembourger Steve Fernandes (navigated by Belgian Olivier Beck) and German Stefan Gottig, all with Skoda Fabias R5s. Besides Yoann Bonato, two more serious title contenders went off the track early on: Frenchman Nicolas Ciamin (Skoda Fabia R5) and our compatriot Jaochim Wagemans (Peugeot 208 T16).

Schewe-Blondeel leaders in the TER Historic

The TER Historic, whose calendar partly parallels that of the TER, started earlier. Three races have since been run. They were successively won by Swede Anders Johnsen (Porsche 911), Italian 'Zippo' (Audi Quattro) and German Heinz-Walter Schewe (Porsche 911). Along with our compatriot Frank Blondeel, the latter was the only one to score three times. He is therefore in the lead in the standings, ahead of the two aforementioned drivers and Irishman Timothy Metcalfe. The battle continues in the Omloop van Vlaanderen, where Carlo Mylle, 4th in Costa Brava, Tom Van Rompuy and Danny Kerckhof, who have not yet scored any points, will be looking to get into the spotlight.

A delegation from KAMV was present at the TER and TERH manche in Antibes. "There we spoke to all the participants in this championship and also had contact with Lucca Grilli, coordinator of the TER. The objective was to promote our 60th ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen. Earlier this year, a delegation was also present at the Gaydon motorsport fair where we had contacts with the British participants of the Mini Sport Cup and the Stage Masters Historic Rally Challenge, two series that will also organise a heat in Roeselare. A visit that met with a lot of sympathy from the participants and organisers of these championships, both in Antibes and Gaydon. We will undoubtedly be able to count on a well-filled, varied and very international starting field this year," said Christof Seynaeve, Vice-President of KAMV.

Mark the weekend of 6 and 7 September in your diary. That weekend, Roeselare will be the place to be to celebrate the 60th edition of the ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen in grandiose fashion.

TER provisional standings after the Antibes Rally
1.
