Despite the uncertain times in the Covid-19 era, KAMV remains fully focused on preparing for the 61st ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen scheduled from September 2 to 5.
Thanks to good cooperation with the various local administrations and police forces, organisers hope to offer participants a challenging course, with some changes compared to last year.
KP Houthulst: 13 km completely redesigned
Following the success of this initiative in 2019, the 61st ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen will kick off again with a shakedown in Slyps (Moorslede), on Wednesday 2 September from 18h00 to 22h00. The course will be retained and Slyps village will once again become the beating heart of the first festivities for a day. Beforehand, the R5 teams will also have the opportunity to organise a test on the same roads. This 5.2-kilometre test will be reserved for a limited number of teams during this test so that participating teams can complete a maximum number of runs from 13h00 to 18h00. During the test run, safety measures will be the same as during the shakedown. Safety first after all.
The real race starts on Friday, September 4, with five special stages on the programme. "That's where the biggest change to our race is right away. We will start with KP De Ruiter followed by a completely redesigned KP Houthulst. This test, popular with the participants, will be just over 13 kilometres long and will be a great challenge to drive in the dark," reveals Christof Seynaeve for the organising committee.

And he goes on to announce an innovation: "These tests will be run twice. In between, we foresee another classic KP Zoning and a 'Tyre fitting zone' and 'Light fitting zone'. In these 'Tyre & Light fitting zones', the competitors will have to change the tyres themselves with the help of a team mechanic and mount the spotlights on the rally car. A unique concept in Belgium."
The programme for Saturday 5/9 features three identical loops of five special stages: Zilverberg, Rumbeke, Passendale, Beveren and the Zoning. Regroups are again scheduled in Passendale, at the Canadian monument, and in the centre of Roeselare at the station car park.
"The first two tests remain unchanged versus 2019. KP Passendale will again be the longest test with just under 26 kilometres! KP Beveren, with the Lust arena, is therefore programmed on Saturday this year. KP Zoning has also changed and will be slightly more technical with a new section on the former DAF site. The free spectator area at the main roundabout will be retained. From there, spectators can watch the spectacle at KP Zoning, have a view of the stage and enjoy the available catering," Christof Seynaeve specifies.
Participants in the TER and BRC championships will thus face 20 special stages and 222 km against the clock. Criterium riders will compete on two full loops on Saturday where 118 race kilometres are programmed. Finally, we have the brand new Rock N Roll Classics Regularity. Here, participants will be presented with two RTs on Friday and Saturday also two full loops with a total of 10 RTs to complete.
As it stands, the ConXioN Omloop van Vlaanderen will be the 2nd round of the JobFIXers Belgian Rally Championship, the organisation of which is confirmed by the RACB in 2020, even with a limited calendar.
"We hope the Covid-19 measures in September will allow us to welcome you to Roeselare to pick up the experience of our beloved rally sport again in 2020," KAMV concludes.
